Scientists have developed innovative solutions for thermometry in various fields

Scientists at Kazan Federal University (KFU) have found a way to measure temperature without contact by developing special materials for luminescent thermometry. They can be useful in everyday life, in production, and even in chemical reactors.

According to Valery Shtyrlina, head of the scientific laboratory, the basis for this discovery was stable complexes of ytterbium with aromatic compounds. Using pairs of rare earth metals, scientists created compounds that are not only stable but also have unique properties: their color changes depending on temperature. This discovery became the basis for creating a new type of thermometer.

Six new compounds based on rare earth metals have a special feature: when the temperature changes, the spectrum of their radiation changes, which allows for accurate temperature measurement. The research was conducted jointly with Tyumen State University and the University of Giessen in Germany, where scientists studied the optical properties of these materials.

Scientists have also found that the new materials have high thermal stability, which makes them more reliable compared to traditional thermometers. They can operate in the temperature range from -10°C to +65°C and retain their properties even at temperatures up to +400°C.

In the future, researchers plan to conduct additional tests to check how the new materials will work in various conditions. The results of their work have already been published in an international scientific journal.
