At the National Research University "MEI" (NRU "MEI"), the wear life of steam turbine blades has been increased by 1.5 times. This was reported in the press service of the university.
Specialists used PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) technologies. They allow applying thin films of other metals to turbine blades by deposition in the gas phase.
The new technology includes preliminary modification of the stellite surface. After that, a wear-resistant coating is formed on the entire surface of the blade, protecting the leading and trailing edges.
Using the technological equipment for the formation of PVD coatings created at the university and the unique scientific installation "Erosion-M", technological solutions were developed to extend the life and increase the reliability of the blade apparatus of wet steam turbine stages.
As a result, it was possible to achieve an increase in the wear life of the blades by more than 1.5 times and a reduction in losses from underproduction of electricity. The erosion resistance of stellite was increased by more than two times, which significantly improves the operational characteristics of steam turbines.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that "Uralturbo" mastered the production of the power turbine casing for the TM16 engine.
