Литийионные батареи из электробусов будут использоваться в метро Москвы

Batteries from retired electric buses will provide power to the Moscow Metro

Moscow authorities plan to extend the lifespan of lithium-ion batteries removed from electric buses by using them as energy sources for the metro. According to Deputy Mayor Maxim Liksutov, after being used in transport, the batteries retain 40 to 50% of their capacity, making them suitable for use as energy storage devices in the metro's infrastructure.

According to the transport department's calculations, these batteries will be able to operate effectively for about another ten years. This will temporarily postpone the need for their disposal, providing enough time to develop modern recycling technologies. Primary battery recycling with the extraction of useful metals is already underway in Russia, but experts are striving to increase the depth and efficiency of this process.

Using batteries from electric buses for the needs of the metro will help reduce the amount of waste and reduce the cost of purchasing new energy storage devices.
