Роскомнадзор заблокировал мессенджер Viber на территории России

Access to the service was restricted due to violations of Russian law

Roskomnadzor has blocked the Viber messenger in Russia due to non-compliance with the requirements of Russian legislation.

RKN reports that access to the service was restricted due to its violation of the obligations imposed on information dissemination organizers. These requirements are aimed at preventing the use of the messenger for terrorist and extremist activities, recruiting citizens for such purposes, and trafficking in narcotic drugs.

In addition, the reason for the blocking was the placement of prohibited information on the platform.

State Duma deputy Nikolai Nemkin said that the amount of fines imposed on the Viber messenger over the past two years exceeded 1.8 million rubles. These fines have not yet been paid.

The daily audience of Viber in Russia is 14.5 million people. According to Mediascope, the messenger covers 26% of the Russian population per month, and 14% per day.
