High-mobility 120-mm breech-loading self-propelled artillery guns 2S40 "Floks" on a Ural-4320VV (6x6) wheeled chassis will enter the artillery and Missile Troops units. The gun was developed by specialists from JSC "TsNII "Burevestnik" (part of the "Uralvagonzavod" concern) and shares conceptual kinship with the "Nona-SVK" gun based on the BTR-80.
The 2S40 "Floks" gun combines the functions of a self-propelled artillery unit, a self-propelled mortar, and a 120-mm rifled low-ballistics gun-howitzer capable of firing semi-direct and direct fire, as well as along hinged and flat trajectories in an angular guidance sector from -5 to +80 degrees.
This gun has a charging chamber unified with the 2A80 gun-howitzer / mortar, similar to that placed on the experimental self-propelled artillery unit 2S31 "Vena".
The firing range of "Floks" is 13 km with a high-explosive fragmentation projectile, 10 km with a guided projectile, 7.5 km with a high-explosive fragmentation mine. Firing is fully automated through the use of an automatic loader, rate of fire - 8 (HEF) or 10 (HEFM) rounds per minute. There are 28 rounds in the automated ammunition rack, and another 52 in conventional racks.
The gun is adapted to fire 120-mm guided artillery projectiles with semi-active laser homing heads "Kitolov-2", as well as guided mines KM-8 "Gran". The firing range of the "Kitolov-2" projectile is 12 - 12.5 km, the "Gran" mine - 9 km.
The 120-mm gun is equipped with a modern recoil system, which made it possible to abandon выдвижных опор. Together with modern electronics, this solution reduces the preparation time for firing to 20 seconds and significantly increases efficiency. The "Floks" self-propelled gun is equipped with a modern digital gun-computing complex, which is capable of performing many tasks in automatic mode.
The combat weight of the vehicle is about 20 tons. The self-propelled unit has бронирование: the protection of the front part corresponds to class VI, the sides are protected according to class V, the engine-transmission compartment is protected by an armored casing corresponding to class III. The chassis protects against mines weighing up to 2 kg of TNT - the explosion does not affect the engine's operability, and a charge of 5 kg of TNT cannot disable the crew.
The unit is equipped with a YaMZ-536 diesel engine with a power of 310 hp. The crew consists of an artillery crew (3 people) and a driver, who is located in a 5-seater armored cabin.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the unique tanker "Engineer-Admiral Kotov" was launched in Russia.
