The "Lada" submarines (Project 677), developed by specialists from the Rubin Design Bureau and built at the Admiralty Shipyards, are called silent and "invisible." It is not easy for the enemy to calculate the location of a small submarine of this project.
"Lada" is recognized as the most modern and promising domestic non-nuclear submarine, both from the point of view of combat effectiveness and in terms of other tactical and technical characteristics.
According to the chief designer of Project 677 "Lada", Alexander Arsentiev, the small size of the submarine is its big advantage.
It is inconspicuous to enemy sonars.
For comparison: the width of the "Lada" in the area of the conning tower is 7.1 m, for the "Varshavyanka" (Project 636.3) it is 9.9 m, and for the "Borei-A" (Project 995) it is 13.5 m.
The "Lada" submarines are the shortest of those in service with the Russian Navy.
Submarines of Project 677 are designed to combat enemy submarines and surface ships, protect naval bases, sea coasts and sea communications, as well as launch missile strikes against enemy coastal facilities.
