Chief Designer Arsentiev: It is hardly noticeable for enemy sonars

According to the chief designer of Project 677 Lada, Alexander Arsentiev, the small size of the submarine is its big advantage.

It is hardly noticeable for enemy sonars.

For comparison: the width of the Lada in the area of the conning tower is 7.1 m, for the Varshavyanka (Project 636.3) it is 9.9 m, and for the Borei-A (Project 995) it is 13.5 m.

Lada submarines are the shortest of those in service with the Russian Navy.
Alexey Egorov, military expert

Submarines of Project 677 are designed to combat enemy submarines and surface ships, protect naval bases, sea coasts and sea communications, as well as launch missile strikes against enemy coastal facilities.
