The second-generation Soviet MiG-21 fighters have been decommissioned by the Croatian Air Force. They will no longer be used as rapid response assets to protect the country's airspace. This is reported by Eurasian Times.
Croatia has become the last European country to retire the MiG-21. Last year, Romania replaced Soviet aircraft with American F-16s.
The MiG-21 will be replaced by French Dassault Rafale fighters. Croatia has already received 7 of the 12 aircraft ordered from France. Croatian pilots are currently undergoing training on the advanced Western fighter.
