UAZ is actively testing Profi trucks equipped with completely new units for this model — a 2.0-liter diesel engine and a 6-speed manual gearbox. Auto.ru has already familiarized itself with these cars and shared their photos.
The project will develop progressively — from simple to complex. First, a fresh power unit will appear on rear-wheel drive "one-and-a-half trucks" of the "Profi" series, then it will be adapted for all-wheel drive trucks and vans on the same platform, and the final stage will be the integration of modern "hardware" into the "Patriot" and "Pickup".
According to the authors of the material, this will probably happen no earlier than November 2025, when an updated version of the SUV will be presented. At the moment, there are not even running prototypes of this model.
The engine roars
The installation of the engine required a large amount of work to improve and modify it: new engine mounts were installed, the engine compartment was modernized, some pipelines were relocated, and the design of the cooling system was changed. In addition, it is necessary to continue working on the cooling system.
The engine is a JAC HFC4DB 2.0-liter diesel engine with a cast-iron block, chain-driven timing and a Garrett turbine. Power — 136 horsepower, torque — 320 Nm, which is reached at 1600 rpm.
The engine control unit is a Chinese-made Bosch, the ABS system unit is also Chinese. The JAC 6-speed manual gearbox has a cable drive.
In a moderately lively urban traffic, the diesel "Profi" allows you to act like a tractor — you turn on the fourth or fifth gear and drive like that all day, as if on an "automatic".
The average consumption of a diesel engine on a Profi truck is 12–13 liters per 100 kilometers, but the Patriot should be more economical due to its aerodynamics.
The interiors of the experienced diesel Profi cars have not yet been completed.
No violations
Interestingly, Sollers plans to acquire the rights to use the engine and transmission from Chinese manufacturers. This will allow making changes to the design without violating anyone's rights.
Currently, Profi cars from UAZ are undergoing the certification process. It is expected that the vehicle type approval (OTTS) for these cars with new components will be obtained between February and March 2025.
In turn, the updated version of the "Patriot" should appear on the market in the second half of 2025. It will combine modern technical solutions and increased comfort without significant external changes. According to company representatives, this best meets the expectations of customers.
In the future, UAZ also plans to significantly improve the quality of painting of its new models.
