US Surveillance of Russian Aircraft Carrier Admiral Kuznetsov Revealed

TNI: US monitored Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov in 2011

In 2011, the United States Navy monitored the Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov. This was reported by geopolitical analyst Brandon Weichert in an article for The National Interest.

He noted that during its deployment to the Mediterranean Sea to support Syria in 2011, the US Navy closely monitored the aircraft carrier, fearing it might sink.

Weichert specified that the surveillance of the Russian vessel was ordered to the Sixth Fleet of the American Naval Forces, which was to provide assistance in the event of the aircraft carrier sinking.

Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Kuznetsov is a Russian aircraft-carrying cruiser of Project 1143.5, the flagship and the only aircraft-carrying ship of the Russian Navy. In December 2011, Admiral Kuznetsov set off to the Mediterranean Sea to the Syrian coast together with a detachment of Northern Fleet ships.

Since 2017, the cruiser has been undergoing repairs and modernization at the 35th Ship Repair Plant (part of the Zvezdochka Ship Repair Center, which is part of USC). The deadline for commissioning is at the end of 2024.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that Aeroflot will be the first in Russia to take aircraft on "wet" lease.
