An unexpected exhibit appeared at the largest all-terrain vehicle exhibition in Russia, "Vezdekhoder-2024": an American three-axle military SUV M561 from the 1970s, better known as the "Gama Goat."
"Gama" is derived from the name of the inventor of the SUV's articulated joint, Roger Gamon, while the second part of the nickname, "Goat", reflects the SUV's high cross-country ability. The car not only fits perfectly into the theme of the exhibition, but is also looking for a buyer. There is a sign on the windshield about the sale.
M561 Gama Goat is an all-wheel drive amphibious SUV that was developed specifically for the American military who participated in the Vietnam War. The "Goat" is a high-performance vehicle capable of transporting up to 1.3 tons of cargo on water and land.
Inside is a 3-liter diesel engine with a capacity of 103 hp. It helped the driver reach speeds of up to 80 km/h on land and up to 6.4 km/h when it was necessary to move on water.
The SUV was used to transport cargo and the wounded, but structurally it had two disadvantages: difficulty in handling and very loud engine operation.
What exactly is under the hood of the "Goat" from the exhibition now, the owners of the rarity do not specify at the stand. It is also unknown whether the filling of the amphibious all-terrain vehicle has been import-substituted in Russia.
However, you can notice that the owner treated the car with love, kept it in good condition, and even supplied it with a mock-up of a machine gun before the exhibition.
