Scientists from Omsk State Technical University (OmSTU) have developed high-strength, glow-in-the-dark paving stones designed for sidewalks, pedestrian paths, squares, and garden and park areas.
The new material has excellent strength, can withstand loads from pedestrian traffic, and is suitable for use in all climatic conditions. The paving stones not only provide comfortable movement, but also perform a lighting function: they can glow brightly at night and be visible during the day. The color of the luminous blocks can be adapted depending on the landscape and design of the environment.
The development is highly technological, energy-efficient, and cost-effective. The energy consumption of one block does not exceed the power of a regular light bulb, which makes the device economical. At the same time, several dozen blocks can be connected to one current converter, which reduces the cost of the system. It is also possible to connect to a control system, which will allow you to adjust the lighting in parks, squares, and private farmsteads using pre-developed programs.
Paving stones made of this composite material will be flexibly produced from available materials, and their price will be affordable enough for mass use. Each paving element will require a power supply, but it is possible to connect to solar panels, which will improve energy efficiency. Importantly, the blocks are sealed and protected from moisture penetration, which allows them to be used in conditions of short-term immersion in water.
This project aims to improve the landscaping of urban areas, creating a more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing urban environment.
