No extra stitches: New use for surgical laser found in Russia

The method allows aesthetic surgeries to be performed almost bloodlessly

The Clinic of Plastic Surgery of the Clinical Center for Health Sciences of the I.M. Sechenov Moscow State Medical University has begun using a thulium laser for plastic surgeries, the university's press service reported.

Doctors performed about 10 facial surgeries to test the new technology. These include blepharoplasty, mid-face lift, and endoscopic plastic surgery.

The dissection of the tissues we work with is almost bloodless, they are not burned, and sufficient hemostasis is ensured. As a result, the trauma is minimal and everything heals well. Such operations can be performed safely and almost bloodlessly with a thulium laser compared to other methods where the surgeon uses \"classic\" instruments.
Valentin Sharobaro, Director of the Clinic, Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery of the N.V. Sklifosovsky Institute of Clinical Medicine of Sechenov University

Doctors also used a thulium laser for body surgeries (abdominoplasty and breast correction). The scalpel was used only to dissect the skin, and the dissection was performed with a laser instead of a coagulator and other cutting instruments.

Earlier www1.ru reported that a program for selecting materials in plastic surgery was created in Samara.
