Russian troops on the front lines are using a very rare 122-mm multiple launch rocket system 9K55 "Grad-1" mounted on a ZIL-131 high-mobility truck chassis.
Its main difference is the use of the ZIL-131 truck as a chassis for the 9P138 combat vehicle. This resulted in a low-profile vehicle, which allowed for simplified manual reloading of ammunition.
The "Grad-1" MLRS transport and launch module is a 36-round system adapted for use with both 9M28 unguided rockets and the latest 9M521 rockets with a range of up to 40 km.
