Russian military are actively using fiber-optic tethered drones "Knyaz Vandal" on the front lines. Fiber-optic operation provides stable communication with the operator, and insensitivity to electronic warfare makes it possible to perform tasks at minimum altitudes.
At the same time, it is impossible to determine the launch site of the "Vandal". However, the device also has certain disadvantages: the range of the drone is several kilometers. It does not replace traditional drones using a radio channel, but is used on the line of combat contact to solve specific tasks, point-by-point.
Of the disadvantages, our device is slower than other drones in use. This is not due to the weight of the coil, but to the fact that if you fly too fast on it, you can break the fiber-optic line. Therefore, "Knyaz Vandal" is not a story for FPV drone racing. But the high-quality and beautiful picture outweighs the disadvantages. It is important to understand that a good picture is also an opportunity to choose where to hit in the final stage.
