Heating food on board aircraft will be done with domestic electronics

At the Novosibirsk State Technical University (NSTU), a new domestic engine for convection ovens in airliners has been developed by order of the Omsk Research Institute of Instrument Engineering. Such ovens heat food on board aircraft by circulating hot air — microwaves and open flames are not used for this purpose for safety reasons.

As reported to IA "TASS" at the university, the engine has already passed bench tests. It reaches the frequency of rotation required by the customer and is capable of delivering the necessary mechanical power. The engine consists almost entirely of domestic components.

Since the convection oven, where food is heated with hot air, is quite compact, the development had strict requirements regarding the dimensions of the product. We manufactured the active part of the electric motor — the stator core, winding, rotor, only the magnets were ordered in China.

The engine is now awaiting acceptance tests as part of a convection oven, after which the Omsk Research Institute of Instrument Engineering plans to begin mass production of the device.
