Production of Chinese Chery brand cars will begin in Russia under the new localized Novo brand. This will be the second Russian brand created to sell localized Chery cars, after the already existing XCITE brand.
Production will be established at the former Volkswagen plant in Kaluga, which now belongs to AGR Automotive Group, formerly a division of Volkswagen Group Rus.
AGR Automotive Group is actively recruiting employees to work at this plant, which indicates the imminent launch of production of Chinese crossovers, in particular, Chery Tiggo models, with Russian VIN numbers. These cars are expected to be sold under the Novo brand.
Volkswagen's return to Russia in the near future is unlikely due to ongoing sanctions, and the plant, previously used to produce models of the German brand, will now focus on assembling Chinese cars. The new Novo brand will likely be associated with high-quality, localized Chery crossovers, allowing the company to continue operating in the Russian market without direct connection to Volkswagen.
