The head of the German consulting firm Schneider Group, Ulf Schneider, in an interview with the Berliner Zeitung newspaper, called for consideration of the consequences of anti-Russian sanctions for German industry.
According to him, after the departure of German machine builders, auto concerns, and spare parts manufacturers from the Russian market, their place was successfully taken by China. If Germany returns to the Russian car market in 2025, then BMW, Mercedes, and other concerns will be able to make up for lost time, but in five years «it is difficult to predict».
It cannot be said that Russia is suffering greatly from the deficit. Therefore, we must be careful not to lose for a long time some markets on which we have imposed sanctions.
Schneider also noted that he hopes for a partial lifting of anti-Russian sanctions, which «still do not have the desired effect».
Schneider's fears are quite justified: in October 2024, Chinese cars occupied more than 90% of the Russian car market. The first auto sanctions against Russia have already begun to be eased by Japan: Russians can now import cars with electric installations from manufacturers such as Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Mercedes, and Audi from auctions.
