Annual isolation experiment SIRIUS-23 has come to an end

The project successfully simulated flights to the Moon

The annual international ground isolation experiment SIRIUS-23 has been completed at the Institute of Biomedical Problems (IBMP) of the Russian Academy of Sciences. This made it possible to simulate a flight to the Moon, in which six volunteers took part (five Russians and one citizen of the Republic of Belarus).

Among the crew members of the mission were Yuri Chebotarev (commander), Angelika Parfenova (flight engineer), Ksenia Orlova (doctor), researchers Ksenia Shishenina and Rustam Zaripov, as well as researcher Olga Mastitskaya from Belarus.

The experiment started exactly one year ago, on November 14. The project is designed to study space flights of varying complexity and duration (over 500 days).

Volunteer test subjects spent 366 days in special conditions close to a space expedition to a lunar orbital station and the surface of the Moon. Participants in the isolation experiment carried out the docking and unloading of four transport ships and carried out five improvised exits onto the lunar surface.

Three experimental studies were conducted using a universal computer stand for robotic systems (UKS RTS) to test joint operations of a human and an anthropomorphic robot.

Over the past year, experts have also conducted 70 studies. The data obtained will allow us to determine the individual characteristics of the body for adaptation in long-term flight conditions.

It is worth noting that the SIRIUS project was first launched in November 2017 and lasted 17 days. In the future, it is planned to conduct three more annual experiments until 2028.
