Russia Proposes Allowing Speeds Up to 150 km/h on Roads

This concerns not all roads, but modern high-speed highways like the M11 "Neva" or M12 "Vostok"

The State Duma has proposed increasing the permitted speed on highways to 150 km/h. A corresponding appeal is being prepared for the head of the Main Directorate for Road Traffic Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Chernikov.

According to the Telegram channel SHOT, deputies Vladislav Davankov and Anton Tkachev from the "New People" party propose increasing the permitted speed to 150 km/h on high-speed highways. This concerns the safest and most modern highways, such as the M11 "Neva" or M12 "Vostok."

The initiators of the idea believe that increasing the speed will help reduce traffic jams and travel time. In their opinion, an increase in accidents should not follow the increase in speed, since it is proposed to allow speeding only on the most modern and safe roads. They say that the previous permission to increase the speed to 130 km/h did not lead to an increase in accidents and casualties.

If the amendments are adopted, Russians will be able to accelerate to 169 km/h and not receive fines for it.

Earlier, in the first half of 2024, a decrease in the number of accidents was recorded in most regions of Russia. The lowest accident rate on the roads this year for six months was in Chechnya, YNAO, and Chukotka.
