The Central Institute of Aviation Motor Engineering has begun developing a hybrid power plant for a regional aircraft with a capacity of up to 100 people. A special feature of the new product will be the use of liquid hydrogen as a coolant, which will almost triple the power of electric machines.
Engineers are currently creating a hybrid power plant with a capacity of 1.5-2 MW. The next stage of research work should cover the creation of a high-power HSU - 1.5-2 MW. A special feature of this installation will be the use of not only a more powerful drive based on a turboshaft engine, but also the use of a new coolant.
In the medium term, in 2030-2035, it is possible that aircraft with such a power plant will appear - for 19 passengers, and by the 2040s - regional aircraft. One of the tasks that CIAM is trying to solve in this direction is to replace the coolant from liquid nitrogen to liquid hydrogen. As a result, the power of electric machines will increase almost threefold.
