As part of the exercises, the crews of the Russian Aerospace Forces and the Syrian Air Force worked out joint actions to destroy ground targets and unmanned aerial vehicles of a mock enemy in the Syrian province of Aleppo.
Combat sorties were carried out from the Kweires airfield. Pilots from the two countries, with strikes from Ka-52 and Mi-8AMTSh-V helicopters of the army aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces, as well as Mi-25 helicopters of the Syrian Air Force, destroyed ground targets of a mock enemy with S-8 aircraft missiles, and practiced flights at extremely low altitudes — about 30 meters.
The crews of Russian helicopters also practiced searching for and destroying strike unmanned aerial vehicles in the airspace. The final phase of the exercise was the нанесение joint air strikes by army and tactical aviation at night.
S-8 is an 80 mm caliber unguided aircraft missile. It is designed to destroy armored, lightly armored, unarmored combat vehicles and manpower. It is loaded into the corresponding container launchers for aircraft and helicopters.
