In Russia, the "Garage 54" team created a V16 engine assembled from 16 Chinese chainsaws and installed it in a regular "six". This project was made possible by using 58cc two-stroke Huter BS-62 chainsaws. To accommodate such a long engine, which has a length of 1316 mm, it was necessary to expand the engine compartment of the car — the standard LADA engine has a length of only 470 mm.
V16 is an engine with sixteen cylinders arranged in two rows of eight cylinders, which provides high power and performance.
To install the engine, new fenders were made, and the brake lines and steering shaft were lengthened. The engineers decided not to make a new hood in order to leave the homemade design open for viewing. After completing the installation, the team tested the car in the garage and then took it outside. Despite the modest characteristics — a volume of 928 cc and a power of only 74 hp, the car was able to accelerate to 60 km/h in 26 seconds.
In their video, the team shares details of their work on the project. They discuss how they fixed problems with fuel supply by making a pressurized tank, like on a real chainsaw. During the preparation of the car for the V16 installation, difficulties arose due to the length of the engine. To solve this problem, the team cut off the front of the car along with the spars and lengthened it proportionally, which allowed them to maintain the LADA style.
