A new runway, 2,401 meters long and 42 meters wide, is being built at Yoshkar-Ola Airport in the Republic of Mari El. The new infrastructure will improve the level of transport security at the airport, as well as the quality of passenger service.
According to the Federal Public Institution "Rostransmodernizatsiya", work is already underway on the construction of a crushed stone base for the infrastructure facility, installation of cable ducts, construction of a storm drainage network and cable crossings. Planned:
- reconstruction of the runway and taxiway;
- construction of a new building for the control tower, combined with a fire and rescue station, and an automated communication system;
- installation of a new weather station, lighting equipment and radio navigation systems;
- construction of six new transformer substations;
- reconstruction of treatment facilities;
- laying of new cable lines and communication lines with a total length of more than 81 km.
It is expected that after the reconstruction of the runway, the airport will be able to receive aircraft with a capacity of more than 100 passengers: Boeing 737-800, Airbus A-320 and SSJ – 100. This will help the development of air transport in the republic and the development of regional tourism.
