Highest Class Flare Occurred on the Sun on the Night of November 1: Potential Threat Exists

The eruption lasted 27 minutes

On the night of November 1, astronomers recorded a powerful energy release on the Sun, which belongs to class X. The Institute of Applied Geophysics reported that its duration was 27 minutes.

Employees of the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, predicting the highest level flares in the next 48 hours, drew attention to the potential danger emanating from active region 3878, which is currently approaching the center of the solar disk.

According to information published on the website, the second strongest magnetic storm of this year, which occurred on October 11, was caused by an explosion in region 3848, which now has the number 3878.

Flares are classified into five levels: A, B, C, M, and X. X-class flares are the largest and most intense manifestations of solar activity. On average, they occur about 10 times a year, especially often during the solar maximum. They are accompanied by emissions of solar plasma, and when clouds of plasma reach the Earth, they can cause magnetic storms.

Previously, a powerful flare occurred on the Sun, with a strength of Х1.8, which caused minor magnetic storms to begin on Earth on October 28. As a result of the flare, a large group of magnetic loops formed. However, the ejection went to the side, so there were no strong magnetic storms on Earth.
