Indian authorities are gradually abandoning Russian weapons, seeking to integrate their own or Western weapons systems. A source stated that the Russian R-73 air-to-air missile for the Su-30MKI fighter will be removed from service, replacing it with the British ASRAAM missile from MBDA. This is reported by Bulgarian Military.
The publication's source explained that ASRAAM was developed by a European defense industry concern. Currently, the Indian Air Force is cooperating with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) on its implementation, he added.
ASRAAM is an advanced missile designed for close combat. It is highly maneuverable and accurate at short ranges. Its main goal is to provide a tactical advantage in dynamic aerial combat. ASRAAM is easily integrated with various combat aircraft, including Eurofighter Typhoon, F/A-18 and F-35.
