Foreign nationals in Moscow will be issued electronic passports from 2025 as part of an experiment. This was announced by the capital's mayor, Sergei Sobyanin.
All necessary information will be uploaded into the electronic ID.
This includes the date of entry into the country, place of work and registration, as well as biometric data. The information can be read by police officers using special devices.
In addition, biometrics will be actively introduced in the capital from next year. Thus, at the Domodedovo, Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo and Zhukovsky airports, foreigners will be photographed and fingerprinted. The procedure will be mandatory even for citizens of countries that do not need a visa to enter Russia. According to Sobyanin, this will increase the detection rate of crimes in the future.
