Russia needs well-armed border ships that can serve as part of the Russian Navy. It may be worth resuming the construction of 2nd rank patrol ships of Project 11356 "Burevestnik". This opinion was expressed by military expert Sergei Marzhetsky.
An export version of the Talwar-class project was developed on the basis of the Burevestnik for the Indian Navy. But due to delays in the implementation of the promising frigate 22350, it was decided to modify the Indian project for the needs of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation (code 11356R).
However, of the 6 frigates, only 3 were built: "Admiral Grigorovich", "Admiral Essen" and "Admiral Makarov". The rest — "Admiral Butakov", "Admiral Istomin" were sold to India, and "Admiral Kornilov" remained unfinished.
In 2023, at the "Army" forum, the Northern Design Bureau presented an updated frigate of Project 11356. Its model featured the Palash CIWS and the Paket-NK anti-torpedo defense system, expanding its capabilities to combat enemy submarines.
In this configuration, the frigate could strengthen the capabilities of the Black Sea Fleet and the Baltic Fleet, Marzhetsky concluded.
