UAZ has acknowledged quality problems with its cars, Gazeta.Ru has learned. According to the plant, the defects arose due to sanctions and the loss of key suppliers.
The press service of Sollers, which owns UAZ, noted that UAZ faced the most difficult challenges in the context of sanctions restrictions. In 2022, most of the key suppliers were lost, so the company quickly began to switch to alternative sources. This decision made it possible to avoid production shutdowns and ensure uninterrupted supply of equipment. The Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant continues to work on improving the production base and switching to more modern components localized in Russia.
According to Anton Shaparina, Vice President of the National Automobile Union (NAS), the low quality of UAZ cars is due to the production culture at the plant. He noted that common quality problems with cars lead to serious consequences. Shaparina believes that in order to allow such cars into the army, it is necessary to introduce a strict acceptance system that will allow returning to the plant those cars that do not meet the requirements.
