The solemn launching ceremony of the large diesel-electric submarine "Yakutsk" (project 636 "Varshavyanka") took place at the "Admiralty Shipyards" shipbuilding enterprise (part of USC) in St. Petersburg. Journalists from Bulgarian Military are following the construction and export of these submarines. It turned out that the operators of Kilo-class submarines are countries friendly to the Russian Federation.
According to NATO classification, submarines of projects 636.3 "Varshavyanka" and 877 "Paltus" belong to the Kilo class. As Bulgarian Military writes, the "Varshavyanka" submarines are called "Improved Kilo". They are equipped with advanced sonar, navigation and weapon systems, and also carry Kalibr cruise missiles.
Submarines of both projects were exported to other countries, including China, India, and Algeria.
