Chinese authorities are actively interested in the Arctic. In early October, Chinese Coast Guard ships, together with warships of the Russian Navy, conducted a joint patrol in the Arctic Ocean for the first time. This is reported by Defensa.
As Defensa notes, the leadership of the US Coast Guard expressed concern about the actions of Russian and Chinese ships. Washington believes that this could lead to the militarization of the Arctic.
During the patrol, the crews of Chinese and Russian ships inspected fishing vessels in the Arctic zone. Representatives of the Chinese Coast Guard stated that this complies with the provisions of Resolution 46/215 of the UN General Assembly.Defensa
