New combat vehicles of the Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft missile and gun system have begun to enter the Russian army. They have been modernized taking into account real combat experience, and their effectiveness in countering drones and so-called complex projectiles has been increased.
One of the main advantages of the complex is the combined missile and gun armament. It creates a continuous kill zone at a range of up to 20 km and at an altitude of up to 15 km. Air defense is provided by guided missiles with radio command guidance, radar and infrared tracking, as well as automatic cannons.
A feature of the modernized Pantsirs is the combination of a multi-channel target acquisition and tracking system with missile and artillery armament. The gun armament consists of four 30-mm 2A38M automatic rapid-fire cannons. The total rate of fire is 5,000 rounds per minute, and the ammunition load is 1,400 rounds.
A feature is the biciber scheme. The 170-mm booster block gives the missile maximum speed and is discarded shortly after launch.
New anti-drone missiles are built according to the same scheme. In fact, they have become smaller copies of those powerful missiles that were originally created for the Pantsirs. The number of launch containers for small-caliber missiles has increased to 48.
The fire control system of the Pantsirs is a modern detection radar built on the basis of phased antenna arrays, and a tracking radar. The deployment time of the complex is 5 minutes.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the Su-57 fighter could accidentally shoot down the S-70 Okhotnik UAV. A likely cause of the emergency could be a technical error in the tactical information exchange channel.
