Engineer Kuznetsov Solved the Issue of Range and Accuracy of the "Vepr-12 Molot" Shotgun from a Drone Interceptor

Strike unmanned aerial vehicles have become a reality of modern warfare, and there is still no full-fledged counteraction to these "birds." However, several years ago, a Russian engineer presented his version of an effective way to combat drones.

About five years ago, the Almaz-Antey concern, together with the student design bureau of aviation modeling of the Moscow Aviation Institute, presented a project for a UAV interceptor armed with a smoothbore Vepr-12 Molot carbine with an electronic trigger.

However, the matter did not progress beyond testing. This may be because the shooting accuracy turned out to be low and the spread of buckshot was too large. Then the inventor Alexander Kuznetsov solved this problem.

He found a solution that allowed him to lock the powder gases in the barrel of the gun until the buckshot flew the farthest distance. He conducted his experiments on a 12-gauge hunting rifle, just like the designers at Almaz-Antey.

The buckshot pellets, retaining their killing power, flew in a dense layer to a distance of up to 200 meters. But the most surprising thing was that there was no release of powder gases, which means there was no flame or gunshot sound. The recoil was also significantly reduced.

Since the recoil during a shot is significantly reduced, it is possible to install several barrels on the drone, increasing the area of destruction. The range of accurate shooting with the use of special damaging elements in the form of feathered arrows could really be brought to several hundred meters.

Kuznetsov turned to gunsmith designers so that, taking his rifle ejector as a basis, they would create a new automatic small arms complex, as he himself called it — SKAT.

However, the inventor did not survive the pandemic and passed away several years ago. If this had not happened, his developments could have helped to effectively clear the sky of enemy drones.

Earlier www1.ru reported that the Su-57 fighter could accidentally shoot down the S-70 Okhotnik UAV. A likely cause of the emergency could be a technical error in the tactical information exchange channel.
