Sales of SUVs in Russia have risen sharply — in the first nine months of 2024, 782,000 vehicles of this type were purchased in the country. This is 11% more than in 2023, and 66% more than in the first nine months of 2023.
The trend of increasing demand for this category of cars among Russians has been observed for several years.
According to information provided by «Авто.ру», the share of ads for the sale of such vehicles ranges from 66% to 73% in 2024. At the same time, there is an increase in the number of offers in absolute terms: in September of this year, there were 2.4 times more of them than in January 2023.
Reasons for Purchases
According to the analytical agency «Автостат», almost 230,000 new cars of this class were sold in the first quarter of 2024, which is more than twice the figures of the previous year.
Russians most often bought Japanese, German, and American SUVs that have left the market.
In 2024, a major change may occur in the SUV market. According to the expert, this is due to a change in key players. Stable demand for such cars will appear only after a couple of years.
Leontiev explained that Russians are used to brands that have left the country, and now there are Chinese analogues that make transmissions differently.
Why do Russians need SUVs?
In the era of the Soviet Union, residents of the country developed a need for vehicles with increased проходимость.
