Avito Services and the marketing research agency ORO have found out what the Russian market of transport service providers looks like. Among the 6.7 million providers in this market, more than 530,000 (8%) provide transportation services. 86% of all transport providers are private specialists, and 14% are individual entrepreneurs and companies. The study included only companies representing micro-businesses (with up to 15 employees).
The demand of Russians for transport services in the summer of 2024 compared to the summer of 2023 increased by almost a quarter (+18%). In the total volume of orders, the share of transport services is 31% — this is 1,053 million orders with an annual revenue of 1,628 billion rubles. Evgenia Lazareva, head of the "Transport Services" category at Avito Services, notes that the most popular transport services on the market include courier services, passenger transportation, and cargo transportation over various distances: from intra-city to international. Most carriers (58%) have been working in this field for 3 years or more. To attract new customers, a third of all carriers use classifieds and specialized websites with ads.
Russians spend an average of 6,000 rubles on transport services. On average, there are 146 orders per month per transport service provider in the country, and the average cost of one order is 5,814 rubles. At the same time, 44% of orders range in cost from 100 to 500 rubles. The average monthly revenue of providers in the "Transport Services" category is about 180,000 rubles.
Predominantly (59%), performers carry out transportation on their own transport. 29% of providers use both their own and rented transport, and 12% use only rented transport. At the same time, providers mainly own small-tonnage cargo transport (77%), and often rent medium-tonnage cargo transport (29%). All the noted data is from a study conducted by the marketing research agency ORO from 04/16/2024 to 05/31/2024.
For the past two years, the Russian authorities have been striving to bring logistics out of the gray area into the legal field. The state is actively working to increase transparency and digitalization of the transport industry. One of the key projects in this direction was the bill on the creation of a unified register of carriers "GosLog". In July, the State Duma adopted in the first reading a bill on the creation of a register of cargo carriers. If it is approved, then from March 1, 2025, a unified database with complete information about each transport company and about all transportation within the country may appear in Russia.
