Russian scientists working at the Russian Quantum Center and the P.N. Lebedev Physical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, with the support of Rosatom and the Russian Academy of Sciences, have created a 50-qubit ion quantum computer.
This project was implemented as part of the roadmap for the development of quantum computing. Its creation puts Russia among the leaders in the field of quantum technology, along with several other countries.
Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom, noted that Russia is now among the countries that are developing quantum computers on all four key platforms: superconductors, ions, neutral atoms, and photons. The new 50-qubit computer represents significant progress compared to previous versions, and access to it is already possible through a cloud platform for performing quantum algorithms.
This quantum computer is based on unique qudit technology, which was previously used only in Austria and the USA. Currently, the Russian 50-qubit quantum computer is the most powerful in the country and is among the top six world leaders with similar systems.
