The Aerospace Forces of Russia are on combat duty with the latest modifications of MiG-31BM interceptor fighters. The combat qualities of the aircraft revealed by military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
He recalled that the fighters are equipped with Zaslon-AM airborne radar, capable of detecting targets with an RCS of 3 m² at a distance of up to 320 km against an open space and 170 km against the background of the earth's surface. A B-1B missile carrier operating in low-altitude mode can be detected at a distance of about 150 km, at high altitude - up to 300 km.
Tactical cruise missiles such as the JASSM-ER with an RCS of 0.02 sq. m can be detected at a distance of about 60 - 70 km against the background of the earth's surface.
The Zaslon-M radar, updated for the MiG-31BM, made it possible to detect air targets at a distance of up to 320 km and engage them at a distance of up to 280 km. With the help of the new radar, the pilot can track up to 10 targets simultaneously and engage 6 targets with missiles at once. Zaslon-M was developed by the V.V. Tikhomirov Research Institute of Instrument Engineering, which is part of the Radioelectronic Technologies concern of Rostec.
The MiG-31K modification is capable of carrying the Kinzhal hypersonic missile − an aviation analogue of the Iskander. It is noteworthy that at the moment there are practically no targets equivalent in parameters for such a missile.
Earlier in the Network appeared footage of the devastating strike of the Iskander-M on the Western M270 MLRS MLRS. The circular probable deviation of the 9M723-1 missile did not exceed 17 meters.
