The "Atom" electric car will be the first in Russia to receive a cyber-immune electronic control unit

It will protect the car's operating system from external hacking, allow remote diagnostics and "over-the-air" software updates

A solution based on Kaspersky Automotive Secure Gateway was presented at Kazan Digital Week by Kaspersky Lab and Atom. Several technology partners will be involved in the serial production of the security gateway, with Kraftway being the first in line.

The security gateway will ensure the cybersecurity of the "Atom": protection against hacking, secure "over-the-air" software updates, event monitoring, and remote diagnostics by specialists. It is also planned to be used in other types of connected transport where cybersecurity is critical.

In Russia, the security gateway allows compliance with international regulatory frameworks for ensuring the cybersecurity of connected transport. As noted by Kaspersky Lab, it specifically complies with UN rules that became mandatory in June 2024 for all manufactured vehicles sold in the territories of countries participating in the 1958 Agreement (on motor vehicles), as well as the ISO/SAE 21434 and ISO 24089 standards, which regulate the measures that manufacturers must implement.

This collaboration allows us to take the production of solutions for ensuring the cybersecurity of connected transport to a new level. Currently, there is a high demand in Russia for domestic auto components. Combining our efforts with Atom and Kraftway will stimulate this process and aligns with our global strategy of scaling solutions based on KasperskyOS.

AO "KAMA", the startup behind the electric car, notes that the collaboration with Kaspersky Lab and Kraftway will make "Atom" even more reliable.

"Atom" is the first Russian mass-produced electric car with its own operating system. The development of the electric car takes into account the highest Russian and international standards of not only passive and active safety but also cybersecurity. Collaboration with Kaspersky Lab and Kraftway allows us to implement many advanced solutions that provide reliable protection for all electronic systems of the car. Our goal is to develop and implement advanced technologies in the Russian market, which will be presented in the Atom platform and available for export and use by other vehicle manufacturers.
Anatoly Kiyashko, Director of Interaction with Government Authorities and Corporate Partners at AO "KAMA"

Earlier, Kaspersky Lab told "First Technical" that Chinese cars in Russia will also be able to receive new cyber protection against hacking. Negotiations in this direction are already taking place. However, new requirements for ensuring the cybersecurity of cars were also introduced in China in August 2024.
