The 130-mm M-46 guns in service with the Russian army have increased their firing range to 40 km. In terms of this indicator, the gun surpasses many Western models.
M-46s are used to destroy various targets, including enemy towed and self-propelled guns. Armored vehicles, engineering structures and manpower are also hit.
The previously stated range was 27.5 km. The gun can fire different types of ammunition, but high-explosive fragmentation shells are most often used.
A firing range of up to 40 km puts the M-46 on par with NATO systems such as the Polish AHS Krab, and also gives it superiority over the French TRF1, the Anglo-German-Italian FH70, and the American M777 and M198.
Tactical and technical characteristics of the M-46 gun:
- Caliber — 130 mm
- Initial projectile velocity — 930 m/s
- Sighting range — 27490 m
- Maximum range — 37000 m
- Barrel length — 7150 mm
- Weight — 7700 kg
