Production of Kalashnikov AK-203 assault rifles will be launched in India by December 2025. This was announced by the General and Managing Director of the Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL) joint Russian-Indian venture, Major General Sudhir Kumar Sharma.

The weapons are planned to be assembled from locally produced components.

Production in India will take place in five stages - depending on the percentage of technology transferred. I expect to complete 100 percent localization by December 2025.

Sudhir Kumar Sharma clarified that the first AK-203 assault rifle was assembled in India in June 2023. Components of Russian production accounted for 95%, Indian - 5%.

It is worth noting that in July of this year, the joint Russian-Indian venture Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited produced and handed over 35,000 Kalashnikov AK-203 assault rifles to the country's Ministry of Defense.
