The repair and modernization of the nuclear submarine (NSS) special purpose project 10831 AS-31 "Losharik" will be completed in 2025. After that, the boat's sea trials will begin, a source in the shipbuilding industry told TASS.
Repair and modernization of AS-31 will be completed in 2025. After completion of the work, sea trials will begin with a sequential increase in the depth of immersion up to the limit of 6 thousand meters.
The source explained that in early summer there was another reassessment of the nature of the repair work and the scope on the "Losharik". Currently, work is underway on the NSS to install new equipment, mechanisms and components of the submarine, replacing seriously damaged or destroyed by fire.
Recall that on July 1, 2019, a fire occurred on AS-31, which killed 14 sailors-aquanauts. In November of the same year, the submarine was delivered to the Zvezdochka Ship Repair Center, where an operation was carried out to unload the reactor's active zone.
Due to the specific shape of the internal hull — interconnected titanium spheres, AS-31 began to be unofficially called "Losharik".
