The new domestic material for 3D printing is at least 25% cheaper than its European counterparts and equal to them in quality. This is a development of the Zelenograd Development Corporation (SZI).
IA "TASS", referring to the press service of the SZI, notes that in the process of testing the Russian polyamide, more than 50 changes had to be made to its composition. All the necessary parameters for using the new material in production were tested — in particular, the heating temperature, laser operating time, laser power transmission, and scanning speed. The material turned out to be as good as foreign analogues and is quite suitable for import substitution.
The SZI is not going to stop there. They intend to continue testing "on an indefinite basis" to improve and release the next modifications of the new product.
Earlier this year, specialists from the Digital Engineering Pilot Plant of St. Petersburg Polytechnic University presented their new pilot industrial technology for manufacturing filaments for 3D printing from continuous carbon fiber based on thermoplastics. This is the first Russian development of its kind.
Scientists in the USA, Switzerland, and China are working with similar technologies, but it would be difficult to obtain them for export even without sanctions, as they are considered strategic materials.
