Russian cosmonauts conducted another stage of the "Terminator" experiment. Its goal was to develop new methods for space monitoring of the Earth's middle atmosphere.
The program involves performing single images of noctilucent clouds in the limb at different wavelengths with video cameras of the kit in high latitudes.
Kononenko added that the experiment involves observing layered formations in the visible and near-IR ranges of the spectrum at the heights of the upper mesosphere - lower thermosphere in the vicinity of the solar terminator.
The scientific equipment for the experiment consists of two sets – "Terminator-nadir" and "Terminator-limb". The first is designed to observe the emission layer in the immediate vicinity of the solar terminator so that the earth's surface and tropospheric clouds are in shadow, and the emission layer is illuminated by the Sun.
