Russian military began using previously unknown drones. They were identified as "brothers" of Iranian "Shaheds" or their Russian analogue – the kamikaze drone "Geran", which is also called "Gerbera".
However, this new UAV was developed by Russian specialists for other purposes, and the main problem, according to foreign experts, is the low cost of production of such drones — about 300 dollars.
On the night of July 20, the Russian Aerospace Forces launched a massive strike on strategically important enemy targets. A real commotion began in foreign media when it turned out that along with the usual "Geraniums", an unidentified UAV was spotted in the sky. Later, guesses about its origin appeared, which only increased the degree of anxiety in the foreign press.
These "Gerberas" will differ from "Geraniums" by a greater distraction of our air defense systems. They are even cheaper, made of foam. They knock out air defense.
Journalists pay special attention to the ability of drones to connect to their local 4G networks and transmit the necessary data to the Russian drone operator. At the same time, the drone's body itself is made of radar-absorbing foam, which helps it to disguise itself for air defense or electronic warfare.
An excellent option for budget UAVs, as its processing is a fast and cheap process, there is no need to use highly qualified personnel and expensive equipment. The speed is higher, and the production price of a foam plastic device is 3-5 times lower than the production from composites. Most likely, "Gerbera" is a reduced model of a larger version of the UAV, which will already look like a "Shahed", and we are only observing a prototype so far.
At the same time, military analysts rely not on the strength of their military specialists, but on possible corruption within the producing country, which may slow down the production of such "Gerberas".
I only hope for their corruption! That they themselves will steal terrible money from themselves, and, conditionally, instead of 5 kopecks, "Gerbera" will cost 50 thousand dollars. God grant that this will slow them down.
Russian war correspondents have already published videos demonstrating the capabilities of "Gerbera". From them it can be concluded that this UAV is capable of becoming both a combat drone and being used for reconnaissance purposes. If necessary, the "bird" will turn into a "false target", calling fire on itself from enemy air defense.
Earlier www1.ru reported that Russian military were armed with "Drone Guns" to combat enemy drones. The effective firing range is up to 40 meters.
