Russia Becomes World Leader in Number of Databases Leaked to the Darknet

Leaked databases contain personal information of clients from various companies

Russia has topped the list of countries with the most databases leaked to the darknet. According to analysts, the country ranks first in the number of leaks, accounting for 10% of the total leaked data.

The United States is in second place with 8%, followed by China and India with 6% and 7% respectively.

According to experts from F.A.C.C.T., 170 leaks were recorded in just the first two and a half months of this year. This increase is due to the growing number of attacks targeting non-commercial goals.

The leaked databases contain clients' personal information, including passport details and addresses, as well as trade secrets. The increase in the number of cyberattacks without financial motivation is linked to the start of the operation in Ukraine, which, according to experts, has contributed to the increase in such incidents.

According to a study by Positive Technologies, 150 databases of Russian companies have been presented on shadow forums this year. The total number of leaked user data rows amounted to 200.5 million. The majority of leaks affect retail online companies. The published databases contain up-to-date information such as surnames, first names, addresses, passwords, dates of birth, passport details and telephone numbers.

The increased amount of leaked data is due to the growing activity of hackers, who are now more likely to pass on stolen information for free, which greatly facilitates its distribution. According to experts, the number of offers to sell leaked databases in the darknet and Telegram has increased by 30% in 2024.
