The St. Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation (GUAP) has created an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with an innovative design. It allows the drone to be folded without the need to disassemble it. This was reported by the university's press service.
The development will simplify the transportation and storage of large UAVs.
The "Horizon" project offers a unique solution to this issue — a design based on the principle of elastic deformation of the leading edge of the wing, which allows the aircraft to be folded. This is how the developers reduce the size of the drone without having to disassemble it into parts. The frame ensures quick deployment and the ability to take off without the use of additional devices.
The new UAV is easy to operate and equipped with a special modular system. This allows you to change the view from cameras to a thermal imager for high-quality shooting at night.
Currently, there are no analogues of UAVs with a similar design on the market. A similar principle is used in the production of hang gliders - the only thing is that their frame does not fold.
The drone can be used in rescue operations, for monitoring and aerial surveying.
Earlier www1.ru reported that Russian drones will have a new technical vision system.
