Госдума одобрила запрет рекламы в запрещённом в России Instagram*

The authors of the idea insist that the bill is harmless to business

The State Duma approved in the first reading a bill banning advertising on Instagram and Facebook (social networks owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

The text of the document states that if a court recognizes an organization as extremist on the grounds provided for by federal law, then the dissemination of advertising on the information resources of this organization is prohibited.

According to the explanatory note, the bill aims to deprive the owners of such information resources of profits from advertising, since the income from it allows them to create new content, including prohibited content, and maintain user interest in their resources. At the same time, the share of total revenue ranges from 50 to 90%.

The authors of the bill recalled that some Russians bypass the blocking and continue to use social networks banned in the Russian Federation.

It is emphasized that the bill will not entail negative socio-economic, financial or other consequences, including for business.
