Compactness and Power: Russian ATGM "Metis" Will Stop Enemy Armored Vehicles

ATGM hits enemy tanks at a distance of up to 2000 m

Russian military personnel are actively using the portable anti-tank complex "Metis-M1." It is designed to destroy modern and advanced tanks equipped with dynamic protection, lightly armored vehicles, fortifications, and engineering structures.

The "Metis" ATGM was developed by the Tula Instrument Design Bureau in the second half of the 1970s under the leadership of the domestic gunsmith Arkady Shipunov. At the time of its creation, the complex had no analogues in the world.

Its main feature was its extremely modest mass and size characteristics compared to other ATGMs. In particular, the mass of the anti-tank missile in the transport and launch container was 6.36 kg, and the length of the container was less than 80 cm.

Military personnel could fire from the complex from a lying position, from a trench while standing, and also from the shoulder. The modern modification of the ATGM is the "Metis-M1," which has been entering the troops in recent years. The complex is an effective and multifunctional means of destruction.

Tactical and Technical Characteristics of the "Metis-M1" ATGM

  • Control system — semi-automatic via wired communication line
  • Firing range — up to 2000 m
  • Armor penetration — 900-950 mm
  • Type of warhead — tandem cumulative, thermobaric
  • Missile caliber — 130 mm

Mass:

  • launcher — 9.5 kg
  • missile in container — 13.8 kg

Earlier, www1.ru reported that the Russian military had invented a new type of ammunition for dropping from an FPV drone. The range of these ammunition is made in modifications of 2 and 3 kg with a significant fragmentation field and a more powerful high-explosive effect than that of standard VOG-17 ammunition.
