The Research Institute of NPO "Luch" and "Giredmet" (part of Rosatom State Corporation), together with the Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology and Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod, have developed a Russian technology for purifying phosphorus and synthesizing its compounds. This was reported in the company's press service.
The development will help eliminate the shortage of elements for the production of materials for the computer and aerospace industries.
High-purity phosphorus is used for doping, which is necessary to change the properties of a semiconductor material, usually silicon or germanium, in order to improve its electrical characteristics. Foreign supplies of such high-purity elements have ceased, and there are no Russian developments and production facilities in the country.
It is worth noting that last year the Russian authorities decided to create a federal center for chemistry. It will appear in the Irkutsk region and will allow the production of phosphorus, epoxy resin, epichlorohydrin and other necessary substances.
