The "Kontur" "talking" security drone developed at MAI

It can identify and record the faces of offenders thanks to AI

Moscow Aviation Institute presented its new product at the HeliRussia-2024 exhibition: the "Kontur" drone for protecting simple and especially important objects.

It allows automating perimeter monitoring, eliminating the influence of the human factor on observations, optimizing costs and increasing security efficiency. The development was first shown at the International Military-Technical Forum "Army-2023", and over the year at MAI, the appearance and capabilities of the "Kontur" have been significantly transformed.

The drone with a take-off weight of about 10 kg is equipped with a ground control station, a landing pad and its own software with elements of artificial intelligence for processing the received video information. In the case of launches over a territory where there are people, the "Kontur" is equipped with a parachute.

"Kontur" can:

  • track illegal intrusions into the territory, compliance with the regime by vehicles, including violation of parking rules;
  • record the carrying and transfer of suspicious items;
  • detect unattended items, detect people who need help, identify smoke points;
  • identify regime violators with face recording;
  • operate day and night, at positive and negative temperatures, moderate rain, snowfall and gusts of wind up to 8 m/s;
  • be equipped with a loudspeaker or a searchlight. If a loudspeaker is included, the drone will "talk" to the violators, make a warning so that, for example, a person reparks. It is capable of reproducing both pre-recorded messages and the operator's speech;
  • work not only independently, but also in a team with other drones, and with stationary video surveillance systems.

According to MAI representative Konstantin Mazikin, who spoke to IA "TASS", the drone is currently undergoing testing at the MAI airfield in Alferyevo. Later, it will patrol the space above the MAI territory.
