Rapid Ammunition Depletion: Military Expert Damantsev Explains the Need for Modernizing the Pantsir-S1 SAM System

It has been proposed to equip the Pantsir-S1 SAM system with advanced 72V6MT transport-combat vehicles

The Pantsir-S1/SM anti-aircraft missile and gun system (SAM system) needs to be equipped with advanced 72V6MT transport-combat vehicles (TBM). This opinion was expressed by military expert Evgeny Damantsev.

According to him, the 72V6MT TBM will help solve two main problems of single 96K6 SAM systems and Pantsir-S1/SM batteries:

  • rapid ammunition depletion
  • small number of target channels on the 1RS2 radar guidance module and on the 10ES1 multispectral optoelectronic module
The 72V6MT TBM is not equipped with a massive RLM SOTS circular view radar detector. The freed-up additional payload is used to equip two additional 12-round transport-launch modules with 24 57E6/M SAMs, which is equivalent to the arsenal of two Pantsir-S1 SAM systems.

The military expert emphasized that the tandem of the 72V6MT TBM and the Pantsir-S1/SM has 8 target channels and a firing performance of up to 24 targets per minute. The ammunition load can consist of 36 57E6M SAMs or 144 19Ya6 SAMs with a range of up to 10 km.
